Spinning Yarn

The First Attempts....

Hello!
I'm back and here to show you my first 3 skeins of handspun yarn! =) My first skein of yarn came out pretty horrible...hahaha. But! I'm learning.... The first time I used my wheel was amazing, I knew right when I started that it was going to be an addiction.

There's not much to say about each skein that I've spun, only that with each skein I can see improvement, which is exciting for me!

Once again, my first skein is NOT good, but I'll share it anyway...it's actually kind of funny... =)
I didn't bother figuring out the yardage when I wound this on my niddy noddy, I'll never use it, but I'll keep it just because it'll be fun to have!

My next skein is semi-usable, I even counted the yardage! It's approximately 64 yards, and will work ok for felting =)

...

Lastly, my third one is usable but far from perfect! However, it's by far my best yet! I have had SO much fun spinning, I've done very little crocheting since I got my wheel, but that's what happens when you get a new toy =)
I really like the color of this skein I spun, it reminds me of autumn...it is approximately 120 yards and is probably more of a worsted weight yarn. I have a yarn gauge to find the weight of the yarns I spin, but this skein isn't perfectly spun up, so worsted weight is more of a guess =) I was actually pretty happy with this skein, I didn't think it was terribly bad considering it was literally the third time I had ever used a spinning wheel! =)

...

My next project is definitely going to be kool aid dying, it looks so fun! =) That'll be my next post for sure! I may take some pictures of some new fiber I ordered as well! =) That's all for now!
Have a good day!

Aurora

Hello!
It's finally time to tell you about my most recent crafting purchase! About a month and a half ago I decided I wanted to look into getting a spinning wheel! My first thought was to wait a couple of years before I went ahead and bought one, however, after finding out that I can put one on layaway and make payments, I knew I had to do it now! =) It only took me about 4 weeks to pay it off, and now it's sitting here at home! Her name is Aurora.... She's a single drive, double treadle, Ashford Traveller, in a walnut finish, and is absolutely beautiful!

I spent about 5 days tracking my wheel on the internet, after it shipped, to see where it was while it made its way here.... I think I drove everyone crazy! hahaha

The day my wheel arrived was VERY exciting, I could hardly contain myself! I was so excited I almost skipped taking pictures as I went along!

Wheel

Opening the box was way too fun! However, it was also slightly overwhelming because I had to assemble it...there were a lot of pieces and I was scared to death to break something on it!

Here's a picture of all of the pieces spread out on my bed...I was nervous, but very excited at the same time....

Wheel

The first couple of steps took no time! The instructions were pretty clear, there weren't any written instructions, just pictures with arrows and what not....I found it pretty easy to follow though!

Wheel

Nearly every screw and the tip of almost every piece of wood had to be dipped in candle wax in order to fit in the correct spot, at least that's what the instructions told me to do...so I followed them so I wouldn't mess anything up! After spending money on a spinning wheel, it would have been heartbreaking to mess something up!

Wheel

About 2 hours or so into the assembling process I realized there weren't very many pieces left...which made me SO happy!

Wheel

Originally I expected it to take me a few days to assemble my wheel, (I'm not very good at assembling things! lol), but it ended up taking just a few hours! It came in around 1:30pm and I was finished by 5:30, I even took a coffee break in that time! I was SHOCKED with how easy it went together, but was also very glad and thankful for that! It had to have been God putting it together for me, like I said, I can't do things like that! =)

Now it's time! Here's Aurora, all finished and looking beautiful! I had to taker her outside to get pictures!

Wheel

It looked so pretty in the grass, I really love it! I've been using it A LOT, and am slowly getting better at it....just takes a while to be consistent!

Wheel

That's all for now! My next post will be my first attempts at spinning on a wheel! I'll probably throw in a few more pictures of my wheel too...just for fun! =)  I'm happy to say that my third skein of yarn is actual pretty usable! Can't wait to show you!
Have a good day!
